In this week’s Madden School Film Room, we are going over one of the most important topics in Madden 18: scoring inside the red zone.

Playbook: West Coast

Formation: Gun Bunch WK

Play: Corner Strike

Setup:

1. Put the X/Square receiver on an in route
2. Motion the B/O receiver in a step and hike

Reads:

1. The main read is the B/O receiver on the low ball
2. Then look for the A/X receiver on the high ball
3. Then find the X/Square receiver on the in route

Overview: The motion makes this play deadly in the goal line. This play has a low-ball opportunity and a high ball opportunity.

Formation: Gun Bunch WK

Play: HB Draw

Setup:

1. Motion the B/O receiver in a step and hike (optional)

Reads:

1. Follow the blocks

Overview: A HB Draw is effective in this area of the field because most opponents will be playing a bend don’t break style of defense.

Formation: Gun Bunch WK

Play: Verticals

Setup:

1. Put the running back on a streak

Reads:

1. The first read on the play is the RB/R1 tight end on a low-pass
2. Then look for the running back on a low-pass as well

Overview: The B/O receiver’s route spreads out the zones leaving space to throw it to the tight end. Then the left side of the field you can hit the running back as well out of the back field.

Formation: Singleback Doubles North

Play: HB Pitch

Setup:

1. Motion the B/O receiver to the left of the screen

Reads:

1. Follow the blockers

Overview: On this play you are looking to break it to the outside. Using a running back with some speed will be helpful.

Play: HB Off Tackle

Setup:

1. None

Reads:

1. Follow the blockers

Overview: This is a play to break to the outside with. Which will work well when you are on the goal line.

Play: HB Dive

Setup:

1. None

Reads:

1. Follow the blockers

Overview: This is a good run play to mix in with the Off Tackle in this formation. When your opponent starts over compensating for the outside run hit them up the middle.

Play: HB Inside

Setup:

Reads:

Overview: This play works in a short yardage situation because of how quick the hand off is.

Play: FB Dive

Setup:

Overview: This is another play that works in a short yardage situation because of how quick the hand off is. Being that the backs line up so close to the QB.
