In this Madden 19 Mini Scheme, Mazin breaks down his Gun Y Off Trio Wk offense from the Run Heavy formation.
Check it out below.
Recommended Audibles:
- Deep In
- HB Draw/HB Base
- Four Verticals
- PA WR In
Playbook: Run Heavy
Formation: Gun Y Off Trio Wk
Play: Slot Option
Setup:
- Put your tight end on a streak or fade
- Put your slot receiver on an in route
Reads:
- Your first read is the X/square receiver against cover 1 or cover 0
- The next read against man to man defense is the B/circle receiver on the comeback
- The final read is the RB/R1 receiver on the In route
Overview: This is going to be a quick bomb vs any sort of man coverage as long as there isnt a deep half overtop. Slant and Go’s are very effective in madden, but the reason that I think this play is so effective is that the QB doesn’t auto pump fake like they usually do when there is a slant and go.
This is because the slot option route is highlighted which means it is the main route, not the sluggo. If it is not there, I read across the field from my in route to my comeback on the other side.
Playbook: Run Heavy
Formation: Gun Y Off Trio Wk
Play: Deep In
Setup:
- Put the B/Circle receiver on an in route
Reads:
- Your primary target on this play is the X/square receiver on the shallow post
- You also have the running back on a quick pass
- And then the shallow stuff to the wide receivers underneath
Overview: This is our most effective play in the formation because of how difficult that shallow post is vs both man and zone coverage. When the WR running that route has low route running, he gets a better animation against the corner and torches him in man.
In zone, it is something that either needs to be usered or cross manned because the zones simply will not pick it up. Combine that with 2 other crossing routes and a clear out route and this play is extremely tough to stop.
Playbook: Run Heavy
Formation: Gun Y Off Trio Wk
Play: PA WR In
Setup:
- Put the X/Square receiver on a slant route
Reads:
- All of the receivers on this play are decent options just depending on the coverage your opponent comes out in
Overview: This play has routes that specialize in beating each type of coverage in the game. The slant route and the drag route are both man beating routes, that also create a high low vs a cover 2.
The deep S-post adds another level that specializes in beating cover 3. The wheel route also torches man and cover 2, and will work against any man play that isn’t a cover 2 man.
Playbook: Run Heavy
Formation: Gun Y Off Trio Wk
Play: Double Drags
Setup:
- Put the slot receiver on a streak route
- Put the B/Circle receiver on a comeback route
Reads:
- Against man to man defense, your running back will get wide open
- If he is covered, look to the double drag routes
Overview: This play doesn’t really have a deep threat to it, but is has consistent routes that are designed to get short yardage when we need so in short yardage situations. They work because the routes stretch the defense horizontally, then the drags come in right where the zones are not.
Playbook: Run Heavy
Formation: Gun Y Off Trio Wk
Play: Vertical TE Cross
Setup:
- Put the X/Square receiver on a drag route
Reads:
- The tight end is your first read
- If he is covered, look to the X/square receiver on the drag route
Overview: The angle route to the TE is an extremely glitchy route which gets even glitchier when we have a fast HB at that position. It gets in between any mid zones and glitches the man guarding him if it is against man coverage. We also drag the left side WR just to give us a high low read if necessary.
Playbook: Run Heavy
Formation: Gun Y Off Trio Wk
Plays: HB Draw/HB Base
Overview: It is up to you on which run you want to use in your audibles and find more effective, but to me the way defense is played right now I find draws to be very hard for the defense to stop. You can also put one in your audibles and come out in the other one to give yourself a diverse run game with multiple options every play.
Is this in custom playbooks?
Some of the plays will be but likely not all
When does the custom playbook come out?
After our 3rd and 4th ebooks come out in early-mid september we will release our custom playbook
is there a way to add these run heavy plays to your own custom playbook?
Unfortunately there is not
That sucks Lol! In the future will y’all be willing to do more out of the run heavy playbook so we can have more content to put a playbook together?
