February Update From Our Pros

We’ve got a bunch of new plays from our pros.  Instead of trying to fit them into an ebook, we are going to post them for Madden School Unlimited members below.

Mazin’s Plays – Run N Gun Mini Scheme

Playbook: Run n Gun

Formation: Gun Doubles

Play: PA Zone Read

Setup:

  1. Hold RT/R2 after the snap to cancel the Play Action

Reads:

  1. See the video for reads.  All 4 of your receivers can get open

Overview:   This is an excellent play that you can quickhike because it is best run stock. There are 4 crossing routes which all beat man, and 3 of them also beat zone. The play blocks 6 and has play action which gets better blocking than a regular passing play, so we have plenty of time to sit back and make our reads.

Playbook: Run n Gun

Formation: Gun Doubles

Play: Inside Zone Read Option

Setup: None Required

Overview: This is a great play because it piggybacks off of the PA Zone Read play that we previously broke down. It has the same exact action with the QB and HB, except this time it is a run where we can either keep it with the QB or hand it off for the inside zone.

This play is better than a regular read option because the run is actually in inside zone, rather than a regular read option handoff.  Mix it in with the PA Zone Read play.

Playbook: Run N Gun

Formation: Gun Trips TE

Plays: Inside Zone and Speed option

Overview:  This is a great short yardage play because with 2 plays you have a run to the left, a run to the right, and a run up the middle. It is as easy as reading which side you have a numbers advantage on, and running to that side.

Most playbooks with the Trips TE formation do not have a run to the right side, so this will be sure to catch your opponent off guard.

Playbook: Run N Gun

Formation: Singleback Doubles

Play: WR Fork

Setup:

  1. Block the HB

Reads:

  1. Quick arrow route to the TE if there is a cloud flat/purple zone
  2. The C route in behind vs man or zone if the flat zone gets pulled down
  3. Post route over the deep middle of the field

Overview:  This is a very unique play because it has a concept that beats every coverage in the game, has a deep threat down the deep middle of the field, and also has cover 3 bomb if you have enough time in the pocket to wait for it. It allows us to attack multiple areas of the field and wont let our opponent key in on one specific route.

Playbook: Run N Gun

Formation: Gun Tight Flex

Play: PA Read

Steps:

  1. Put the X/Square receiver on a Curl route  (If the curl route doesn’t work, you can also put the X/square receiver on an out route)

Overview:  This play absolutely destroys man coverage. It is important in any players arsenal to have a go-to man beater. In addition to killing man, this play is a great option because it also is great against zone as well and has a deep bomb included which makes it extremely versatile.

The regular play will not work well with a bomb, but that is why we break down how to get a speedy WR on the post route instead of a slower TE.

Arozy’s Plays – Seattle Offense Update

?Playbook: Seattle Seahawks

Formation: Gun Tight Slots

Play: PA Flood Shot

Setup:

  1. Block the HB
  2. Put A/X on an out route
  3. Put the X/Square receiver on a hitch
  4. Put the B/Circle on a fade route

Reads:

  1. Your first look is the Y/Triangle receiver
  2. If your opponent covers that, the playmaker the X/square receiver up field.

Overview: The goal of this play is to wait for the Y/triangle route to develop and then hit that route deep down the field. If your opponent users Y/triangle then playmaker the hitch route up and throw that.

Playbook: Seattle Seahawks

Formation: Gun Tight Slots

Play: Bench Swap

Setup:

  1. Block the HB
  2. Put your Y/Triangle receiver on a streak
  3. Drag the B/Circle receiver
  4. Motion the X/Square to the right

Reads:

  1. The first read is the X/Square receiver on the post
  2. Hitch to A/X
  3. Drag to B/Circle

Overview: The purpose of this play is to hopefully throw the post in the middle of the field, but if they user it you have the hitch to the TE that sits in a spot in between zones that gets open against most coverages.

Playbook: Seattle Seahawks

Formation: Gun Bunch TE

Play: PA Boot Over

Setup:

  1. Fade your A/X receiver
  2. Put the B/circle receiver on a hitch
  3. Block your HB

Reads:

  1. Your first look is the Y/Triangle receiver
  2. If he is covered, playmaker the hitch upfield

Overview: This play does a great job making the user decide between two routes. It can give you a big play to the sidelines and up the middle when you really need it.

Playbook: West Coast (but it is in a lot of other playbooks)

Formation: Gun Tight Slots

Play: Bench Switch

Setup:

  1. Put your A/X receiver on a flat route
  2. Smart Route the B/Circle receiver
  3. Put your Y/Triangle receiver on an in route

Reads:

  1. Low ball to B/circle (LB/L1 + down on left stick)
  2. Then look to the flat to the A/X receiver
  3. The final read is the Y/triangle receiver on the in route

Overview: This is a simple low ball in the redzone, as long as they run hard flats you can lowball it against any coverage.

Stickwork’s Plays – Gun Bunch Empty Scheme

Playbook: Carolina Panthers

Formation: Gun Empty Bunch

Play: Z Spot

Setup:

  1. Put the B/O receiver on a streak
  2. Put the RB/R1 receiver on a drag route
  3. Put the Y/Triangle receiver on a slant or a drag route

Reads:

  1. The first reads on the play are the RB/R1 and Y/Triangle receivers underneath
  2. Then look for the A/X tight end on the slant out
  3. If that is not there look for the X/Square receiver on the speed in
  4. If all else fails, look for the streak up the seam of the field by the B/O receiver

Overview: This is our man beater for this mini scheme. The various routes on this play all can abuse man coverage making it easy to gain yards.

Playbook: Carolina Panthers

Formation: Gun Empty Bunch

Play: Y Curl

Setup:

  1. Max Protect
  2. Put the A/X tight end on a curl or a hitch

Reads:

  1. The first read on this play is the B/O on the drag quick over the middle
  2. Then look for the A/X tight end on the curl route
  3. Then find the X/Square receiver over the middle of the field

Overview: This is the Cover 3 and Cover 4 beater for this formation. The X/Square route is extremely difficult to cover, and this opens up the rest of the field.

Playbook: Carolina Panthers

Formation: Gun Empty Bunch

Play: Curl Flats

Setup:

  1. Put the B/O receiver on a streak
  2. Put the Y/Triangle receiver on a streak
  3. Put the X/Square receiver on a drag

Reads:

  1. The first read on this play is the RB/R1 receiver on the flat route
  2. Then look for the X/Square receiver on the drag
  3. The A/X tight end is the main target since the route is extremely difficult to cover
  4. Finally, look for the Y/Triangle receiver on the streak up the seam

Overview: This play will destroy Tampa 2 and all Cover 2 defenses. The A/X receiver on the post corner is next to impossible to cover. This will also open up the rest of the field.

Playbook: Carolina Panthers

Formation: Gun Empty Bunch

Play: Verticals

Setup:

  1. Put the RB/R1 receiver on a streak
  2. Put the Y/Triangle receiver on a drag

Reads:

  1. The first read on this play is the B/O receiver on the out and up
  2. Then look for the RB/R1 receiver on the streak up the seam of the field
  3. If those are not there check down to the Y/Triangle receiver on the drag

Overview: This is our deep threat play for the formation. This will mainly be used against Cover 2 defenses as it will beat it for big plays in multiple ways. Forcing the defense to run a different coverage.

did they patch out the 1 play touchdowns vs cover 3 from the NYJ playbook a few months ago?

I haven’t been able to pull it off lately.
